When looking at the offseason in its entirity, it seems to me that the team has addressed its most glaring needs pretty well. The single most glaring need was an offensive coordinator, and we got a good one. I didn't care for him as a head coach, but as an OC I think he is pretty good. Isaac Bruce is an immediate upgrade over Jackson, even at his advanced age. He is still productive, but the biggest value may be as a coach on the field. He can help the other vets and the rookie get on the right page as far as reads and route running for the Martz offense. I like the Foster pickup as a backup to Gore. Looking at the defensive front 7, I think it will be pretty good. We could see Justin Smith as pass rushing backer at either the OL or IL position at times. We got value for the money IMO. The rookies need to pan out, but I don't think any of them are sure misses. I also like how they addressed the O line. They say Rachal has the ability to play tackle and so can Snyder. By the way, who is Oasim Mitchell on the roster? A 6-6 355 tackle certainly sounds interesting.
As has been posted, none of these signings are really sexy or spectacular, but they are solid. And solid is what we really needed. A superstar receiver would have been nice, and I personally wanted Limas Sweed. But it wasn't a really great draft for WR's and there may be better players 1 or 2 years out.
I think next year may be very interesting. At least I am hoping so. Any thoughts?
