He could be good if he goes to a system where he can watch, understudy for a while, and get comfortable. The one downside for Alex is that he doesn't have the personality of a leader. Joe was not a loud guy, but he had a confidence where everyone believed in him. Alex has a similar demeanor, but he doesn't have that quiet confidence about him, he has that "nice guy" image...not the guy who goes into the huddle and everyone knows he's in control.
