- Crabtree is a gamer. He has VERY low bust potential, and anyone that's questioning this pick isn't paying much attention. He is explosive out of his cuts, had the best hands at the collegiate level, and is driven to be the best. That trifecta trumps track speed and height every day of the week, and it's not like he's particularly slow or short.
- The trade out of round two is brilliant. Those complaining that we had too many holes to fill at OLB, safety, and OL aren't getting it. Even if we DID fill those holes in the 2nd and 4th rounds we likely still wouldn't have gotten to the playoffs next year, and even if we did we'd still be in for a quick exit. You worry about filling every hole with "adequate" players when you think you have a chance to go far in the playoffs. Otherwise, it doesn't matter. In fact, having some pretty significant holes next year may even net us a higher draft position and a better player.
If we had the chance, we should trade out of the second round EVERY year for a first round pick to be named later. If we did this then it means we'd be picking 1,1,3,5,6,7 rather then 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, and our second #1 would always be a wildcard, potentially netting us a VERY high, premium #1. After 10 years of this strategy who doesn't think we'd be better off? We'd either have two first round draft picks each year, or else we'd ALWAYS have the ammunition to move up in the first round and target the player we really want/need without mortgaging the future later on.
- I am clueless on our Coffee. I'll reserve judgment for later.
- Nate Davis is for real. He has bust potential, but the risk/reward factor weighs heavily on the reward side with this pick. A few have compared him to Brett Favre, and although that's just as unfair as comparing Crabtree to Rice, if we're looking at the highest possible ceiling then this is it. He has so many of the intangibles that make a player great, and the 5th round is where you make this kind of gamble. Can't wait to see him mature.
- McKillop is a a score in the 5th round partially because I think he's likely to compliment PWill very well, and instincts just can't be underestimated in a MLB.
- The 7th round was fantastic. Francois is similar to other players the Niners have drafted in the last few years... overlooked because their stats weren't up to par due to off-the-field issues or injury. He could have been a first round pick with a little luck, and a little more mentoring.
