Seems to me Smith was the one who for years never even had to compete for the job and never even had to produce to keep it.

And it wasn't as if the players around Hill were that much better while Hill put together a winning record and a QB rating in the 90s. Seems to me Hill did what Smith couldn't do, with less of a fair chance to this very day.
