It seems like a lot of teams are giving their potential free agents "Tenders" - which in the case of the NFL means the team is keeping the player available for trade, but you have to match the Tender. For example, Brandon Marshall has a 1st rounder tender, so the Niners could potentially trade their 17th pick for Brandon Marshall, which would give them immense value over the player they do end up with. Other players who are available in the same manner. Here are some of my dream scenarios* (*I do not want McNabb on this team. Everyone here knows I'm a fan of Alex Smith, but I am definitely willing to get an upgrade for our QB; imo McRib is not one).
1) Elvis Dumervil (Broncos - DL had 17 sacks) is tendered for a 1st and 3rd. I'd be willing to pay that. Our defense becomes one of the best in the league bar none, with Elvis, Justin Smith on the DL, and Willis behind them. Damn. I'd also pick BPA OT/OL with our 2nd First rounder, and then just pick BPA after that. This is a proven stud and we haven't had a player of his caliber since Bryant Young/ Dana Stubblefield.
2) Brandon Marshall for a 1st round tender, sign him to an offer sheet; another option is sign Terrell Owens in free agency to a one year contract, stipulating him whining = getting cut. He had a quiet year, but still put up pretty consistent numbers with terrible quarterbacks. Some people feel we have already improved our WRs enough, but I just didn't see it. Marshall, Crabtree, Vernon Davis, and Frank Gore? That's a top 4 to challenge the best teams in the NFL, no doubt. IMO, dream scenario here would be to get Marshall.
3) Eric Berry, who for some reason has been dropping in mock drafts, is available at 9 or 10. Niners trade up and get this guy. He's comparing to Ed Reed, Bob Sanders, and Niners could use someone like him next to Goldson. Dude is a straight stud/ ball hawk and I would love getting him.
4) Still hopeful / Most realistic: Niners pick CJ Spiller at 13, Trent Williams (OT) at 17 and go BPA from there. CJ would immediately become our KR, and maybe PR (but in the NCAA, dude was a KR more then PR), also becoming Frank Gore's backup. People say Gore doesn't need one, and I disagree. It's one of the most important areas for our team, because depth = championships. Gore gets injured every damn year, he needs to be a 1st and 2nd down back, CJ can play H-Back and 3rd downs. CJ has legitimately one of the quickest accelerations from any rookie many have ever seen.
Truthfully, I wouldn't mind any of these situations coming true, even #3 and getting TO in FA would be sick IMO
