It's hard to tell what teams think about any players right now, because there's so much disinformation put out this time of year.

Haden is athletic, strong, a team leader and is good in coverage. His 40 time may be hurting him, but he plays faster than his 40. He played basketball in high school, which is a good sign for a DB - it means his footwork has to be pretty good. The biggest concerns are with his instincts (vital for a cornerback - you don't have time to think too much when the ball's in the air) and experience. Some people think he's only considered a top-of-the-first player because this is such a bad cornerback class. I suspect he's being over-analyzed, and I'd be fine with the team taking him with the 13th pick.

Bulaga and Williams will probably both go in the top 10, but if either drops to us at 13, we take the guy without hesitation, I think. They are probably the two best tackles for the Niners in this draft, if it's true that the team is switching to a zone blocking scheme. I actually think Bulaga would make a fine LT (eventually) with the right scheme. He has the most important quality a left tackle needs - he's really smart. Also has great feet and the size you look for in a tackle. Taking Bulaga at 13 would pretty much make this a successful draft.

I'm already on record regarding Clausen. I don't see how a rookie QB with a bad attitude will do better without an offensive line than Smith would do with improvements on the offensive line. Next year's QB draft will be fantastic - there may be 5 quarterbacks taken in the first round, and someone good will be available to the Niners. But if we trade up, I'm sure I'll be able to rationalize it quickly enough. Someone will get him before 13, assuming other teams think he can play.

I'm afraid we'll draft Anthony Davis. I'm afraid we won't draft Anthony Davis and he'll turn into a stud. I don't know what to think about Anthony Davis. Six months ago, most draft boards had him in the top 5, neck and neck with Okung for the top tackle in the draft. Can Sing and the coaching staff light a fire under him? If he's there at 17 and we haven't drafted a tackle yet, I'm good with rolling the dice on him. Sometimes you have to gamble to succeed.

If you want a change-of-pace RB in this draft, the only choices are Spiller and Best. I see Ginn as a return specialist, so I think Spiller might still be in play here. He would make the rest of the offense more effective, simply because defenses have to make adjustments for a guy like Spiller. You pretty much need two good running backs to succeed in the NFL these days.

I agree that Charles Brown will go higher than expected. He may even be gone by 17. Brown looked really good in college. He still needs to bulk up more, and he's probably a left tackle and nothing else in the NFL. He may not be ready to start on day one, but I wouldn't mind if the Niners took him at 17. He could conceivably end up as the best tackle in the draft.
