Phil Simms told an interesting story about a workout he had with Bill Walsh.

Simms said he was firing the ball to receivers, and Walsh instructed him on throwing touch passes. Simms said he learned so much from Walsh in just that one session. Smith had that kind of instruction for one year. Walsh started easing Montana into games in his second season, so Joe had the benefit of a lot of that tutaledge, before he got the starter's job, and consistent instruction after he got it. Smith is out in no man's land.
