There are very few young QBs that does well their first few years in the league. Aikman was terrible as a rookie; Favre's 3rd year in the league, he threw more INTs than TDs. But the ones that develop into good QBs had consistency with their coaches. Aikman had Norv Turner and Favre had Holmgren.
Next year Smith will have his 4th OC. Smith show some promise when Norv Turner was here. I still want to see what he can do with better coaching.
Nolan doesn't have the offensive coaching skills to develop Smith. He hired Turner last year, which was a good hire. But other then that, Nolan hasn't put together a coaching staff that develops the offense. It's not just Smith, Vernon Davis has not met his potential either.
You can point fingers and say it's all the OC's fault. But who put together the coaching staff? The head coach.
